Capabilities

From first idea to final acceptance

Seven capabilities describe how we work across the whole life cycle of a structure: from strategic assessment to design, from approvals to the construction site, through to the long-term control of existing structures. We bring them in individually or together, depending on what the client needs.

01

Strategy & Feasibility

We help clients decide before they design. We analyse the context, constraints and possible alternatives, compare their costs, timescales and benefits, and provide a clear picture on which to base investment decisions.

  • Pre-feasibility and technical-economic feasibility studies
  • Option analysis and cost-benefit analysis
  • Masterplans and functional briefs
  • Assessment of existing conditions and constraints
02

Integrated Design

Architecture, structures and building services are developed together, by the same team and in the same information model. We coordinate every discipline in BIM, from feasibility to detailed design, to reduce clashes and reach the site with a consistent project.

  • Architectural, structural and building services design
  • BIM coordination and common data environment (CDE) management
  • Feasibility, final and detailed design
  • National and international design competitions
03

Structural Design

This is the technical core of the practice. We design bridges, viaducts and buildings in steel, reinforced and prestressed concrete, timber and masonry, with static, dynamic, seismic and fatigue analyses, for new structures as well as for the improvement and retrofit of existing ones.

  • Road, rail, pedestrian and cycle bridges and viaducts
  • Steel, concrete, timber and masonry structures
  • Seismic, dynamic and fatigue analysis
  • Seismic improvement and retrofit of existing structures
04

Planning & Approvals

We guide projects through planning instruments and approval procedures, working with public authorities, heritage bodies and the relevant agencies from the earliest stages to reduce the time and risk of the process.

  • Urban planning and implementation plans
  • Inter-agency conferences and approval procedures
  • Liaison with heritage and conservation authorities
  • Hydraulic and environmental compatibility studies
05

Assessment & Monitoring

Knowing the real condition of existing structures is the first step towards managing them safely. We inspect, classify and monitor bridge networks and building stock under the ministerial guidelines, with certified inspectors, drones and structural health monitoring systems.

  • Bridge inventories, inspections and attention classes (Ministerial Decree 204/2022)
  • Detailed safety and seismic vulnerability assessments
  • Structural health monitoring with sensor networks
  • Material testing and load testing
06

Project & Construction Management

We follow the work through to handover. We review designs, supervise construction, coordinate health and safety, and test and accept completed works, protecting quality, time and cost on the client’s behalf.

  • Design review and verification
  • Works supervision and health and safety coordination
  • Structural, technical-administrative and functional acceptance testing
  • Project management and support to the client’s project manager
07

Research & Innovation

Research is part of our method. With universities and research institutes we carry out experimental testing, studies and publications, and we sit on technical standards committees: what we learn goes straight into our projects.

  • Experimental testing of decks and structures
  • National and European research projects
  • Scientific publications and technical handbooks
  • Membership of UNI technical committees
