Project description

The “Chieppara” bridge stands in Adria, between the commercial area and the southern part of town, and carries traffic across the Canal Bianco. It is a bascule bridge with a 42.1 m span between hinges, a 7.5 m carriageway and two 1.25 m footways; including the box girders, it is 12 m wide overall.

Given the importance of the structure and its condition, an extensive testing campaign was carried out to check that its theoretical behaviour matched its actual behaviour. The extraordinary maintenance works covered most of the bridge’s elements, including the deck, the abutments and the side and central joints.
